Bill 25, or initially Bill 64, puts in place measures to better control the collection, use, communication and retention of personal information by businesses and organizations. It strengthens citizens' rights with regard to their personal data.

It also provides for tougher penalties in the event of non-compliance with the law.

Some of these standards have already been in force since September 2022, while others will come into force in September 2024.
